Exploring the Intricacies of Reverse Engineering:

We embark on our educational journey by diving into the core concepts of reverse engineering. Students will initially learn to dissect products to grasp their design, functionality, and the underlying engineering principles that make them work.

Engineering Design (Innovative Transport Design)**

  • Competency: Students should be able to design a highly innovative and technically feasible transportation model inspired by nature, demonstrating a deep understanding of biomimicry principles
  • Related to Performance Expectations: This competency ties directly to the ability to synthesize learnings from the empathy phase, particularly in terms of identifying needs and insights that can lead to innovative solutions (DTS-DS-1). It also aligns with articulating a clear, actionable problem statement that incorporates specific users and their needs, guiding the generation of high-quality solutions (DTS-DS-2).

Creative Problem Solving (Prototype Testing and Refinement)

  • Competency: Demonstrates exceptional problem-solving skills in testing and refining the prototype, where solutions are creative and effective.
  • Related to Performance Expectations: This aligns with synthesizing learnings into needs and insights, especially in refining the design based on test outcomes, and articulating actionable problem statements for further development.

Here is the class outline:

1. Energy & Resources

May 1, Welearn

This module aims to deepen their understanding of how different energy sources can be utilized to power vehicles, fostering an environment where students can explore, innovate, and apply their knowledge towards inventing new technology.

2. Exploring the Depths, Heights, and Beyond

May 1, WeLearn

By the end of this module, students will have a deeper appreciation for the importance of sustainable energy sources in powering vehicles, a clear understanding of the technological advancements that have shaped the transportation industry, and a vibrant imagination for what the future of transportation might hold.

3. Navigating Tomorrow: The Era of Autonomous Vessels

May 1, WeLearn

The Era of Autonomous Vessels" is an engaging and forward-thinking module designed for students to explore the cutting-edge world of autonomous navigation technology. This module delves into the intricacies of self-controlled vehicles, spanning from drones flying in our skies to self-driving cars on our roads, and autonomous ships navigating the vast oceans. Through a carefully structured journey across three weeks, students will embark on an educational adventure to understand how these technologies understand their environment, make decisions, and navigate the world with little to no human intervention.

4. From Concept to Pitch

May 1, WeLearn

In this concluding module, learners are tasked with selecting one form of transportation to develop, drawing inspiration from nature to envision a futuristic design. This project will guide them through the process of concept development, testing, refinement, and finally, presenting their innovation to "potential investors" - a panel that can consist of teachers, peers, or community members.
