The first six weeks are focused on presentation skills for entrepreneurs modelled on a 'TEDTalk’ type scenario where learners will research a societal issue of their interest, and produce both an oral presentation and digital animation garner public interest.
The second six weeks are based on the 'SharkTank’ model where learners will brainstorm solutions to their identified problem in Part 1, and create a pitch to a team of investors with company branding, a marketing plan and business model.

Week 1: Introduction to TEDTalk 

In this lesson, learners will familiarize themselves with the desired results of this section and the performance task. They will also be introduced to the TEDTalk format*, and start thinking about the tenets of a high- quality TEDTalk. Finally, learners will begin to self-assess the key competencies they will need to complete the project successfully, and set goals. 

Week 2: Your Personal Story 

In this lesson, learners will gain exposure to high quality TEDTalks, and start thinking more deeply regarding the important elements of an effective talk. In addition, learners will practice narrative storytelling and think about their own 'personal story'. Finally, learners will identify a societal issue that they are passionate about, including collecting data to support their claim. 

Week 3: How to Hook Your Audience 

In this lesson, learners will learn and practice strategies to hook, engage, and interest an audience in public speaking. 

Week 4: Persuade! Writing and Practicing Your Speech 

In this lesson, learners will implement the techniques that they have learned to write an interesting and engaging speech. In addition, learners will acquire and practice effective public speaking techniques. 

Week 5: Animate!  Enhancing the Message  

In this lesson, learners will experience how powerful digital animation can be to enhance presentations, explore different platforms, and ultimately create digital animations to enhance their YouTube video. 

Week 6: Perform! Delivering your Speech and Video  

In this lesson, learners will further refine and practice delivering their speech, and finally they will present both their speech and video to live audiences.

1. Introduction to TEDTalk

7. Introduction to SharkTank!

In this lesson, learners will familiarize themselves with the Performance Task and desired outcomes of this section. In addition, they will be introduced to the SharkTank format and watch examples so that they can begin to think about their own pitches and become inspired!

8. Solutions Based Design

1 hr, 20 min

In this lesson, learners will brainstorm multiple possible solutions to the issue that they have identified, through both products and services. They will identify strengths and weaknesses of each, research solutions currently on the market, and ultimately decide on the solution which they will pitch to the investors in the showcase performance.

9. Creating your Mission and Vision

1 hr, 15 min

In this lesson, learners will explore the purpose and structure of mission and vision statements and the difference between them. They will then continue to develop their own mission and vision statements for their own company which will be providing the product or service which is the solution to the societal issue identified in Part I.

10. Creating your Company Brand

2 hrs

In this lesson, learners will discover what company branding is, evaluate the effectiveness of existing branding, and finally develop their own company branding including elements such as logo, color scheme and slogan.

11. Market your Product!

In this lesson, learners will study the basics of marketing including market research, competitor analysis, market demographics and psychographics, target market and marketing strategies. They then apply this learning to formulate a marketing strategy for their solution.

12. Persuade the investors!

Nov 21

Now the learners get the opportunity to transfer all of their learning to a real-world situation where they pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors in order to persuade them to invest in their business idea.
